I am trying to find a 'brownie' or 'blondie' recipe that my now long past Grandma used to make for us around Christmas. I have looked through many brownie and blondie recipes, but none seem to result in what Grandma made. Here is how I remember them...
They were called a "Brown Sugar Brownie" They were 'tan' on top only an inch high and oozed sugar in the middle and contained walnuts. If left out in the air, they hardened up, but if sealed in a tin they would stay oozy gooey for a week, (like they lasted that long) My mom thinks that they were made with dark brown sugar, but I can't see how and remain 'tan' in color. The taste was almost as if light brown sugar was melting in your mouth. I want to make some for my mom, since these were her favorite.
Any ideas? would some mixture of karo and brown sugar with butter a half the flour of some brownie recipes yeild this?
BROWN SUGAR BROWNIE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2/3 c. margarine
2 1/4 c. (1 lb.) brown sugar
3 eggs
2 2/3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. walnuts
1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate chips (optional)
Melt margarine in large pan and stir in brown sugar.
Cool slightly. Beat in eggs one at a time until smooth. Stir
in dry ingredients. Add nuts and chips. Bake in preheated
oven at 350 degrees. In greased cookie sheet with edges bake 25
minutes. When almost cool cut into 1 x 3-inch bars. Makes 36
bars.
Did you ever find this recipe?
I have been searching for this recipe for years also. When I was first married, I made these "brownies" for my husband and they were delicious. Then we moved several times and I have been searching everywhere for the recipe, to no avail.
I thought I remembered it being in a "Better Homes and Gardens Cookies & Bars" cookbook, but I have searched through my copy from cover to cover (several times) and that's not where I got it from.
If you have found the recipe, would you please post it on here so I may have it, too?
Thanks!
