40 minThese twists look like they came from a fancy bakery, but they take about 40 minutes and four ingredients to pull off.
Store-bought puff pastry gets brushed with beaten egg, coated in Parmesan and paprika on both sides, then folded, sliced, and twisted into spirals.
A few minutes in a hot oven and they puff up into shatteringly flaky, cheese-crusted straws that shatter when you bite them.
Serve them standing up in a glass or tumbler for a stunning presentation at cocktail parties, holiday gatherings, or wine nights.
Kitchen Tips
- Work quickly with puff pastry so it stays cold. Warm pastry won’t puff properly
- Press the cheese mixture gently into the dough so it sticks during twisting
- Twist both ends in opposite directions for a tight, even spiral that holds its shape
- Parchment paper on the baking sheet is essential since cheese will stick to bare metal
Variations
- Swap paprika for smoked paprika or a pinch of cayenne for a spicy version
- Use a mix of Parmesan and Gruyère for a richer, nuttier flavor
- Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or dried herbs like rosemary and thyme
