Often when we’re at our favorite Italian restaurant, and we see baked clams on the menu, we will order them.
Baked clams are an awesome appetizer for a wonderful Italian meal. Why not have homemade baked clams at home? They’re not hard to make, and our family likes them better homemade than Italian restaurants.
They’re a wonderful appetizer for a special meal when you’re looking to wow your guests but very easy to prepare. Recently we made a tray of baked stuffed clams for holiday guests, and they vanished in a flash. Heck, we could have made a double batch, but that would spoil the rest of the meal! Grab a bottle of wine and start your next meal with a tray of baked stuffed clams.
How to make baked clams
Remove clams from the half shell and chop coarsely. Set clams and shells aside.
In a medium-sized, heat-resistant, non-metallic mixing bowl, place 2 tablespoons of butter. Heat in Microwave Oven for 30 seconds or until melted.
Add onion and garlic. Heat, uncovered, in Microwave Oven 3 energy 3 minutes or until onion is tender. Add egg, the ¼ cup bread crumbs, chopped clams, and oregano to the onion mixture.
Spoon mixture into reserved shells—place shells on a heat-resistant, non-metallic serving platter.
In a small bowl, combine the ⅓ cup seasoned bread crumbs and the 2 tablespoons melted butter. Sprinkle buttered bread crumbs on top of clam mixture.
Heat, uncovered, in Microwave Oven for 5 minutes or until heated through.
