Some of This & That (Or Dump Cake) Dessert
Submitted by Boggie
The easiest cake you’ll ever make: dump apple pie filling, pineapple, yellow cake mix, coconut, and pecans into a pan, top with butter pats, and bake. No mixing, no fuss.

1 hrsY’all, this is the dessert that proves effort is overrated.
Just layer everything into a pan in order: apple pie filling on the bottom, brown sugar, crushed pineapple, dry cake mix straight from the box, shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and pats of butter scattered across the top.
No bowl. No mixer. No eggs to crack. Just dump, bake, and try not to eat the whole pan while it’s still warm.
Serve it straight from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and watch it disappear. It’s just as good cold the next day with whipped cream, if there’s any left.
Variations
- Toss in a cup of raisins and a sprinkle of nutmeg with the apple filling for a spiced autumn twist.
- Swap the apple filling for cherry pie filling, or go half-and-half for an apple-cherry combo.
- Use any fruit pie filling you like: blueberry, peach, and strawberry all work great.
Kitchen Tips
- Don’t stir anything! The layers bake together on their own and create pockets of gooey fruit, crunchy topping, and buttery cake.
- Slice the butter into thin pats and cover as much surface area as possible. Bare spots won’t brown properly.
- Best served warm, not hot. Give it 10 minutes out of the oven so the filling can set slightly.
