| 1/2 | cup | vegetable shortening | |
| 1 | cup | sugar | |
| 1 | each | egg | |
| 1 | cup | bananas | mashed |
| 1 | cup | starter | |
| 2 | cups | flour, all-purpose | |
| 1 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1 | teaspoon | baking powder | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | baking soda | |
| 3/4 | cup | walnuts | chopped |
| 1 | teaspoon | vanilla extract | or 1 ts grated orange rind |
Cream together the shortening and sugar, add egg, and mix until blended.
stir in bananas and starter.
Add orange rind or vanilla. sift flour, salt baking powder and soda, Add flour mixture and walnuts to the first mixture, stirring just until blended.
Pour into greased 9 x 5 pan bake 350 for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.
Cool before slicing.
