My grandmother used to make this cake and the recipe has been lost. She was from Ireland.

CLOVE CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
INgredients ~~
1 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. molasses
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
2 eggs
1 c. sour milk
2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
Combine ingredients and bake in 350 degreesF. oven until springs
back to light touch. Sweet milk will not give the same texture
in this cake. Add 2 teaspoons vinegar to sweet milk if you
have no sour.
Frostin~~
1 cube margarine
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 pkg. powdered sugar (or
more if you like it
sweeter)
Mix margarine with cream cheese. Add vanilla and
powdered sugar.
