I am looking for an old recipe similar to the one my great grandmother made in the thirties. I was told she used brown sugar, eggs (whole), butter, milk, vanilla, and flour. She began by heating only the brown sugar in the pan until it got very brittle. She baked the pie but did not add a topping to it. Please help me!!!
This is all I have managed to find.
OLD-FASHIONED BUTTERSCOTCH PIE
3/4 c. brown sugar
5 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. milk
2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 baked pie shell
whipped cream or meringue
topping
Combine sugar, flour and salt; stir in milk slowly.
Cook over boiling water (double boiler saucepans). Cook until
thickened, stirring constantly. Cook and cover 10 minutes
longer, stirring occasionally. Add mixture to egg yolks,
stirring vigorously 1 minute longer. Add butter and vanilla
and cool. Pour filling in prebaked pie shell and cover with
whipped topping or meringue.
