Try These 6 Drinks to Boost Your Mood

There are probably plenty of times that you feel like you need a “pick-me-up.” Luckily, there are several options when it comes to having a drink to boost your mood, and this doesn’t mean the alcoholic variety.

There are many beverages that have mood-boosting properties because of certain natural ingredients. Certain juices and teas will make you feel better very quickly, thanks to some great nutrients and flavours. Try one of these 6 drinks to feel better today!

1. Feeling distracted? Try warm water and lemon.

When you are feeling like you need to focus more, or you are feeling irritable, try a glass of warm water with a squeeze of lemon juice. When you are dehydrated, it can be difficult to focus, so a glass of water is always good for this. Research has shown that merely the scent of lemon can increase your ability to focus, and adding the jolt of vitamin C from the lemon can help your brain release norepinephrine, which helps to improve attention.

2. Feeling stressed? Try a chamomile tea latte.

By now you have probably heard about the stress-reducing properties of chamomile tea. Add some whole milk that comes from grass fed cows (it contains conjugated lineolic acid, or CLA) and you will be ingesting a healthy fat that helps to control blood flow to the brain. When this happens, you will be able to reduce the amount of cortisol that is released into your body. The combination of the chamomile tea and milk makes for a real stress-fighting powerhouse beverage. Sweeten the drink with a drizzle of honey if you like, to make it a real treat.

3. Feeling depressed? Try a Greek yoghurt or kefir smoothie.

Smoothies made with Greek yoghurt help to increase the body’s ability to release neurotransmitters that can make you feel good. On top of that benefit, the yoghurt contains probiotics, which not only helps to balance the good bacteria in your gut, but also helps to improve your mood.

4. Feeling restless? Try tart cherry juice.

Tart cherry juice is now being recognized as a treatment for insomnia and restlessness. Drinking a glass of this juice twice per day can improve your body’s ability to produce melatonin and the amino acid tryptophan, which can help you fall asleep and stay asleep longer.

5. Feeling frustrated? Try drinking Chai tea.

This tasty tea is more than a treat, it can increase your level of alertness and help to decrease feelings of frustration. The smell of cinnamon helps to soothe you and make your mood more even, making you better able to handle stress and less frustrated as a result. Chai can also help to balance blood sugar levels, which decreases irritability throughout the day and helps control cravings.

6. Feeling exhausted? Try drinking green tea.

For centuries, green tea has been used medicinally. Because it contains L-theanine, which is an amino acid that increases alpha brain waves (the same result as meditation), it can help you relax and feel calmer. Drinking green tea can give you a boost of alertness, without the caffeine that you may not want.

Each of these drinks can help you to feel better, almost instantly. Imagine the great results you may experience if you regularly include them in your day!
