50 minApple pan dowdy is vintage Americana, the kind of dessert your great-grandmother made when company was coming.
Brown sugar, chopped walnuts, and raisins go into the bottom of a baking dish, then sliced apples pile on top.
A simple cake batter pours over everything, and it all bakes together until you flip it upside down to reveal a gooey, fruit-studded top.
Kitchen Tips
- Sprinkle the nuts and raisins in the bottom first so they stick to the cake when you flip it
- Alternate adding dry and wet ingredients to the creamed butter for the smoothest, most tender cake batter
- Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before flipping so it holds together and doesn’t fall apart
