Sweet Pongal / Sakkarai Pongal Recipe
Sakkarai Pongal, a traditional and sweet Pongal dish, is certainly one of those food items without which the Pongal festival is incomplete. A superbly delectable mix of rice, moong dal, milk, cardamom, cashews and raisins, this sweet is simply irresistible for all the Pongal dish lovers.

1 cup rice
2/3 table spoon of Moong Dal
Jaggery/ Gur – ½ cup
Milk- ¾ cup
Ghee- 2/3 tsp
Cardamon powder- a small pinch
Saffron – a pinch
Cashew/ raisins : 8 / 10
Water – 2 cups
Ingredients
1 cup rice
2/3 table spoon of Moong Dal
Jaggery/ Gur – ½ cup
Milk- ¾ cup
Ghee- 2/3 tsp
Cardamon powder- a small pinch
Saffron – a pinch
Cashew/ raisins : 8 / 10
Water – 2 cups
Directions
• Fry the Moogh dal until you start to get a light flavor. • Now mix the dal with the rice and add 2 to 3 cups of water and cook until it is very soft. • Heat 2/ 3 teaspoon of ghee and fry the cashew nuts and raisins. • Dissolve the jaggery in ¾ cups of warm water and strain it to remove the impurities. • Now add it to the pan and cook it on a low heat. • Then add it to the cooked rice and moogh dal and mix well. Mix saffron with milk and add it to the pongal. • Now combine well and add cardamom powder, ghee and the roasted cashews and raisins and stir quickly. • Once it is semi thick, remove the pan and serve it hot
