These cloud-like little cookies are proof that you don’t need a long ingredient list to make something special.

Whip egg whites and cream of tartar into stiff, glossy peaks, fold in a handful of M&Ms, and drop them onto a baking sheet. That’s it. The oven does the rest, drying them out low and slow until they’re crispy on the outside and marshmallow-soft in the center.

The M&Ms add pops of color and little chocolate surprises in every bite. They look like confetti on a plate, which makes them a natural fit for birthday parties, holiday cookie trays, and Easter baskets.

Pro Tips

  • Make sure your bowl and beaters are completely grease-free. Even a tiny bit of fat will prevent egg whites from whipping properly.
  • Add sugar gradually, about a tablespoon at a time, beating well between additions for the stiffest peaks.
  • Don’t overbake. Pull them when they’re firm to the touch but still snow-white.
