Tropical fruit meets your morning glass in this quick blender shake. Sweet pineapple and ripe banana carry all the sweetness, so there’s no need for added sugar, while skim milk keeps it light and a splash of vanilla rounds out the flavor.

Reserving some of the pineapple juice is the small trick that matters. Blending it back in along with the chunks gives the shake a thinner, more drinkable texture and concentrates that bright pineapple tang.

It takes about as long as peeling a banana, which makes it a genuine grab-and-go breakfast or an after-school snack the kids can help blend.

Pro Tips

  • Use a frozen banana or a few ice cubes for a thicker, frostier shake.
  • The riper the banana, the sweeter and more flavorful the result.
  • Blend a little longer for a smoother, less fibrous texture from the pineapple.

Variations

  • Add a spoonful of Greek yogurt for extra protein and creaminess.
  • Use coconut milk in place of skim for a pina colada lean.
  • Toss in a handful of spinach for a green smoothie that still drinks fruity.
