90 minThis retro dessert layers tender apple slices beneath a streusel-style topping that gets its crunch from crushed corn flakes instead of plain oats.
Fresh orange zest and juice brighten the whole dish with citrus sparkle, cutting through the brown sugar sweetness.
Serve it warm from the oven with a cloud of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting into the corners.
Kitchen Tips
- Crush corn flakes by hand into coarse pieces, not fine dust, for the best textural contrast
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for balanced flavor
- Dot the topping with butter bits right before the final orange juice drizzle for extra richness
- Bake until the apples surrender to a fork but still hold their shape
