I'm looking for the recipe for a gingerbread or spice cake with a bottom pie crust and a chocolate icing. My mother purchased this cake in local bakeries in South jersey during the fifties.

Have you ever found this wonderful recipe? I used to get it at Lochel's Bakery in Hatboro, PA but now live in Maine and no one ever heard of it. There was a thin crust on the bottom and then a spice cake/gingerbread with raisins and a chocolate fondant icing just on the top, often swirled with white icing. How I miss this cake and would love to have the recipe if any one has it. Thank you.

I finally found a bakery that still makes this cake. (I've been looking for several years!) I ordered one for this Wednesday so I'll let you know how it is. I did create a recipe last year from memory and my sister thought it was close. I'll be interested in comparing it to the one I ordered this week.
