Steel cut oatmeal

Can steel cut oatmeal be used for recipes calling for rolled or old fashion oats? I'm thinking steel cut may be too large and may not be tender when baked?

Definitely not. Don't try replacing rolled oats with steel cut oats for a baking recipe. Steel cut oats are more like cracked wheat and take a very long cooking time. They're more suitable for a slow cooked oatmeal.

Rolled oats have an infinitely shorter cooking time.
