I had a bunch of these recipe cards and after years of bypassing them finally made the chocolate cake and thought it was the best I'd really ever had.
If anyone has the recipe, I'd REALLY appreciate getting a copy of it.
Thanks so much and happy baking/cooking to everyone!
Guessing this is a dead post, but I do have the recipe for those interested.
Cake:
2 C flour
2 C sugar
1/2 C cocoa
1 1/2 t soda
1/4 t salt
1/2 C shortening
1 C milk
1/2 C cold black coffee
1 t vanilla
2 eggs
Mix dry ingredients, add shortening, mix on low speed. Add milk, coffee and vanilla until combined, beat 2 minutes on high, add eggs and beat 2 more minutes on high. Bake 350 for 30-35 minutes in two 9" round pans. Test doneness with toothpick test.
frosting:
1 C cocoa
1/2 C butter, softened
1/2 C light corn syrup
1/2 t vanilla
1/4 t salt
1/4 C warm water
4 C powdered sugar
1 C walnuts, divided
Combine cocoa, butter, corn syrup, vanilla and salt. Beat on medium 2 minutes, add warm water, mix well. Mix in 2 C powdered sugar until smooth, add remaining 2 C, mix til smooth.
Place flat side up of one cooled cake on plate. Top with 1 C frosting. Sprinkle with 2/3 C walnuts. Place other cake on top of nuts, with curved side up. Frost top and sides with remaining frosting, then garnish with remaining nuts.
Enjoy!
