Ingredients

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs
3 cups flour, all-purpose
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups apples, mcintosh diced
2 cups walnuts chopped
Sherry glaze
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup sherry

Directions

Cream butter and sugar well; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition; sift flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg together.

Gradually add to butter mixture; stir in vanilla; fold in apples and walnuts; pour into a greased 10-inch tube pan and bake in a preheated, 325F oven for approximately 1 1/2 hours; cool; drizzle sherry glaze over cake and serve.

Sherry Glaze. Combine sugar and sherry in a heavy saucepan; cook, stirring constantly, until syrupy, about 2 minutes.
