From our helpdesk,

I've had a hard time trying to find a source of smoked yeast. Sysco made out like they had never heard of smoked yeast.

Uncle Ben's Rice uses smoked yeast, but when I called the number that I was given at their Commercial/Purchasing Dept., I could never get anyone to return my call. '

The only source that I know of is:

BAKON YEAST in Rhinelander, WI 715-362-6533. I ordered some a couple of years ago and when the bottle is opened, the smell of hickory smoke is strong, but when cooked in veggies, it's rather mild. This is the same product that the Seventh Day Adventist use, (they said) 301.680.6000 in Silver Spring, MD.

I found a health food store in Columbia, SC that carries it so I may try it again. The one that I used years ago, was just fantastic for flavoring veggies, etc. It's a real shame that I can't find that one any more.

We love finding good sources of ingredients that build flavor.

Anyone out there know of any suppliers?
