Sour pitted cherries dessert of the 60's

My mother used to make a dessert that I loved. It had a can of sour pitted cherries, graham crackers, sugar, and had beaten egg whites with coconut on top. I remember that the dessert was placed in the overn to brown the egg whites and coconut. At least, that is all that I can remember. Mama is "gone" and my sister has her recipes. I hope someone can help me.

CHERRY PUDDING


1 can sour cherries, drained
(save juice for part of
milk measurement)

3 egg yolks

1 1/2 c. sugar

3 Tbsp. plain flour

vanilla

2 c. milk (this includes

cherry juice)

2 Tbsp. melted margarine

pkg. graham crackers

Note: Use 3 egg whites for the meringue
with 1/4 teasp cream of tartar.

Mix sugar, flour, egg yolks, milk and margarine. Cool
over low heat until it thickens. Add cherries and vanilla.
Pour in dish. Crumble graham crackers or break into small
pieces to your desire.

Cover with meringue.

Sprinkle with coconut, (optional).

Bake 15 minutes ot till light brown.
