| 1/4 | cup | margarine | |
| 2 | pounds | stewing beef | cubed |
| 1/4 | cup | flour, all-purpose | |
| 1/2 | cup | onions | thinly |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | garlic | minced |
| 16 | ounces | mixed vegetables | canned, drained |
| 1 | teaspoon | thyme | dried |
| 1 | each | bay leaf | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1/4 | teaspoon | black pepper | |
| 1 | tablespoon | brown sugar | |
| 1 | cup | beer | or water |
| 12 | ounces | beef broth |
Melt margarine in skillet; brown beef. Add flour and mix well.
Add onions, garlic spices, sugar, beer or water, and broth.
Place casserole dish in 350F oven. Cook 1-1/2 hours until meat is tender, adding mixed vegetables 15 minutes before completion.
Remove whole bay leaf and serve.
