Honey-sweetened white bread for the bread machine with a soft crumb and golden crust. Butter, eggs, and powdered milk give this loaf bakery-quality richness with hands-off ease.

This bread machine white bread gets its soft, tender crumb from a combination of butter, eggs, and powdered milk. The honey adds a touch of natural sweetness and gives the crust a deeper golden color than plain sugar would.

Don’t panic if the dough looks wet during kneading. That’s normal for this recipe, and the extra moisture is what keeps the finished loaf soft instead of dense. The honey also means the crust browns faster, so use a light crust setting if your machine has one.

This dough doubles as a great base for dinner rolls. Pull it out on the dough cycle, shape, proof, and bake in your oven for a different take on the same recipe.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use bread flour, not all-purpose. The higher protein content gives the loaf better structure and chew.
  • Make sure the water is lukewarm, not hot. Water above 110°F (43°C) kills the yeast before it can do its job.
  • Works on both regular and rapid bake cycles, so choose whichever fits your schedule.
  • Let the loaf cool at least 15 minutes before slicing. Cutting into hot bread compresses the crumb.

Variations

  • Replace honey with maple syrup for a slightly woodsy sweetness.
  • Add a tablespoon of dried herbs (rosemary, thyme) for a savory dinner loaf.
  • Swap half the bread flour for whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.
