15 minIf you’ve ever grabbed a golden dim sim from a fish and chip shop in Australia, you know the craving.
These little parcels of minced pork, chopped prawns, shredded cabbage, and shallots get seasoned with soy sauce and a few drops of sesame oil, then wrapped up in wonton skins and fried until shatteringly crisp.
They’re the ultimate Aussie snack food, and making them at home is dead easy.
Dunk them in soy sauce or sweet and sour for the full takeaway experience.
Pro Tips
- Squeeze excess moisture out of the cabbage before mixing so the filling stays firm and doesn’t make the wrappers soggy
- Pinch the wonton wrappers tightly at the top so they don’t open up during frying
- Fry in batches and don’t crowd the pan; too many at once drops the oil temperature and makes them greasy instead of crisp
- These also steam well if you prefer a lighter version; just cook over boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes
Ingredients
Directions
Combine all chopped ingredients, with cornflour, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil and salt mixing well.
Place a teaspoon of mixture into the center of each wanton wrapper, pinch the wrapper together at the top to form a small package.
Heat oil and deep fry until golden brown.
Drain and serve with soy sauce or sweet and sour sauce.
Comments
if this was truly Australian it would say prawn instead of shrimp
I agree. I just added prawn to description part. Thanks for your comment. Happy Cooking :-)
