1 hrsSometimes the simplest dishes steal the show, and this casserole proves it with just four ingredients.
Thin slices of sweet potato and baking apple get layered together, bathed in applesauce thinned with water, and dusted with cinnamon before a covered bake turns everything soft, fragrant, and naturally sweet.
No butter, no sugar, no marshmallows. Just the honest sweetness of yams and apples doing what they do best.
It works hot alongside a holiday roast or cold straight from the fridge as a guilt-free snack.
Kitchen Tips
- Use a firm baking apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp that holds its shape during the long bake
- Slice the sweet potatoes and apple uniformly thin so they cook at the same rate
- For a richer version, dot the top with a tablespoon of butter and a sprinkle of brown sugar before baking
