10 minThis is not a subtle drink. Rum, tequila, and vodka all go into the same pitcher with orange juice, lemon juice, and sugar. It’s a three-spirit citrus punch built for game day parties and backyard gatherings where nobody’s counting pours.
The combination of orange and lemon juice gives the Touchdown a bright, tangy base that keeps the triple-liquor blend from tasting boozy and harsh. Sugar stirred in until dissolved balances the citrus acidity and smooths out the edges.
Serve it over plenty of ice. The dilution as the ice melts is part of the design. Straight from the pitcher, this cocktail is strong. As the ice chills and melts, it opens up and becomes more drinkable.
Chef Tips
- Stir the sugar thoroughly until completely dissolved. Granules settling at the bottom of the pitcher mean the last glasses will be cloyingly sweet.
- Use chilled orange juice straight from the fridge. Starting cold means the ice melts slower and the drink stays balanced longer.
- Taste and adjust before serving. You may want more sugar or lemon juice depending on your orange juice’s sweetness.
- Keep the pitcher in the fridge between servings. This much fruit juice goes off quickly at room temperature.
Variations
- Add a splash of grenadine for color and a hint of pomegranate sweetness.
- Use fresh-squeezed lemon juice instead of concentrate for a brighter, cleaner citrus flavor.
- Float thin lemon and orange slices in the pitcher for a more festive presentation.
