Three ingredients, one blender, and about 30 seconds between you and the richest after-dinner cocktail you’ve ever had. Chocolate cream liqueur (Godiva is the classic choice), a pour of cognac, and three scoops of vanilla ice cream get blended smooth and served in a snifter.

The cognac is what keeps this from tasting like a plain chocolate milkshake. Its brandy warmth cuts through the sweetness of the liqueur and ice cream, adding depth and a slow burn on the finish. Without it, you’d have dessert. With it, you’ve got a proper drink.

Serve it immediately after blending. The ice cream melts fast once it hits the glass, and you want that thick, creamy consistency, not a thin, separated puddle.

Pro Tips

  • Use good vanilla ice cream. Premium brands with higher fat content blend thicker and taste richer.
  • Chill the glass in the freezer for a few minutes before pouring. A cold snifter keeps the drink thick longer.
  • If it’s too thick to sip, add a splash more cognac. If too thin, add another half scoop of ice cream.

Variations

  • Coffee Godiva Whisper: Use coffee ice cream instead of vanilla for a mocha twist that’s even more complex.
  • Chocolate Godiva Whisper: Swap the vanilla ice cream for chocolate for a triple-chocolate indulgence that leans even darker.
