Three ingredients. Two minutes. One very good frozen cocktail. Brandy blended with a scoop of lemon ice cream and a scoop of orange sherbet until thick and creamy. That’s the Summer Hummer.

The lemon ice cream and orange sherbet together create a bright citrus base, and the brandy adds a warm, smooth kick underneath. Since sherbet has less fat than ice cream, it keeps the texture lighter and more refreshing than an all-ice-cream version would be.

Soften both the ice cream and sherbet for a few minutes before blending. Rock-hard frozen scoops will either stall your blender or leave icy chunks. You want them slightly soft so they blend into a smooth, spoonable consistency.

Pour into a chilled glass and drink immediately. This melts fast.

Pro Tips

  • Let the ice cream and sherbet sit on the counter for 5 minutes before blending. Just enough to take the edge off without melting
  • Use a good brandy since there are only 3 ingredients and you’ll taste it clearly
  • Blend on high for 15 to 20 seconds, no more. Over-blending melts it into a thin liquid
  • Chill your glasses in the freezer beforehand to keep the drink frozen longer

  • Swap brandy for Grand Marnier or Cointreau for a more citrus-forward boozy note
