| 1 | cup | flour, all-purpose | |
| 2 | teaspoons | baking powder | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 3/4 | cup | sugar | |
| 3 | tablespoons | cocoa powder | |
| 3/4 | cup | milk | |
| 1 1/2 | teaspoons | vanilla extract | |
| 2 | tablespoons | vegetable shortening | or margarine, melted |
| 1 | cup | nuts | chopped |
| 1 | cup | brown sugar | |
| 2 | tablespoons | cocoa powder | |
| 1 3/4 | cups | water | hot |
In mixing bowl, combine until smooth flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, 3 tablespoons cocoa, milk, vanilla, shortening or margarine.
Add nuts.
Pour into greased 8-inch square pan.
Combine brown sugar and 2 tablespoons cocoa; sprinkle over batter.
Pour hot water over all.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Serve warm, topped with ice cream.

This recipe was easy to read and easy to bake. A most tasty chocolate torte. In the past, I have used the Ghirardelli Flourless Chocolate Torte Recipe, but misplaced that cookbook. I needed to make a torte for a birthday. I made a Raspberry Coulis for the plate, and served the torte with a dollop of whipped cream, and a dusting of bittersweet chocolate on the cream. It was beautiful! Thank you for helping me out in a bind!
