473 ml all-purpose flour

5 ml baking powder

Directions

In a medium bowl, beat the shortning and margarine with an electric miker at medium to high speed for abt 30 seconds, or until softened.

Add abt half of the flour and all of the remaining ingredients and beat until thoroughly combined, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally.

Beat or stir in the remaining flour.

Divide the dough in half.

Cover and chill 1 to 2 hrs or until easy to handle.

Roll each portion of the dough to 1/8" thickness on a lightly floured surface.

Cut into desired shapes.

Place 1" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

If desired, sprinkle with candies or colored sugar befor baking.

Bake in a 375deg oven for 7 to 9 min or until the edges are firm and the bottoms are lightly browned.

Remove the cookies and cool on a rack.

For chocolate sugar cookies: stir in 1tbs of unsweetened cocoa powder into half of the recipe
