Directions

How to make apple pie filling

  1. Add all of the ingredients minus the almond extract into a large pot over low heat.

  2. Cook, gently stirring on occasion, until the apples are semi-soft and the mixture it thick.

  3. Remove from heat, gently mix in the almond extract and allow to cool. You can make this ahead and refrigerate overnight.

Makes a sufficient amount of apple pie filling to fill a 9-inch (23 cm) pie dish with a 2-crust pie dough.

This made the best pie ever! Instead of oj, I zested & juiced one orange & augmented the cup with apple juice, added an extra teaspoon of cinnamon,tossed in a handful of raisins. I used a struesel topping. DELICIOUS - thank you!
