Baked Pasta with Sausage, Tomatoes, and Cheese

Awesome, this is the best pasta I have ever had. I couldn't believe how flavorful it came out, perfectly balanced on both flavor and texture.

Ingredients

346.8 ml/g pasta, ziti
one package
453.6 g hot italian sausages
links
*
237 ml onions
chopped
2 each garlic cloves
minced
15 ml tomato paste
1.3 ml salt
1.3 ml black pepper

419.1 ml/g tomatoes, canned
petite-diced, undrained
59 ml basil
chopped, fresh
*
1 x nonstick cooking spray
*
237 ml mozzarella cheese
shredded fresh, reduced fat
*
237 ml Parmesan cheese
fresh

Directions

Preheat oven to 350℉ (180℃) F.

Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting salt and fat. Drain the pasta, and set aside.

Remove casings from sausage.

Cook sausage, onion, and garlic in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until browned, stirring to crumble.

Add the tomato paste, salt, pepper, and tomatoes, and bring to a boil.

Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combine cooked pasta, sausage mixture, and basil.

Place half of the pasta mixture in a 4-quart casserole coated with cooking spray.

Top with half of mozzarella and half of Parmesan.

Repeat layers.

Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until bubbly.
