Directions

Making your own homemade almond butter is healthy, delicious, and relatively easy to make.

We use almond butter in many recipes, which led to the discovery that making my own homemade version is more cost-effective, and we can easily make just as much as we might need.

On our first attempt, we tried to make our almond butter. We were a tad impatient and almost wanted to add some water into the food processor, hoping it would reach the desired consistency. Please do not do this; the mixture can become too wet, simply wait it out and keep on blitzing. It may take up to 15 minutes or more, but you can leave the food processor or vitamix running while multi-tasking on some other task while it’s working; you may need to scrape down the mixture from the edges of the food processor every so often.

The quickest way to make this recipe is to use roasted nuts (you can roast them yourself first for 10 minutes in the oven), but raw nuts will also work but will just take longer. Don’t be tempted to soak the nuts first, as although this does make it easier to blend; it will make the consistency too runny.

How to make your own almond butter

Add the almonds (or other types of nuts) to a food processor, with the vanilla extract, if using and blitz.

Leave until you reach a smooth and creamy consistency.

This could take up to 30 minutes, but be patient and regularly scrape down the mixture from the edges of the food processor.
