Seven Layer Taco Dip with Homemade Tortilla Chips

If you're planning a Super Bowl Party, the most important thing is to prepare in advance. Have as much done ahead of time so you can enjoy the game with your guests. Here are a few tips to assis you:

  • Chop and slice the vegetables and fruits in advance. Keep chopped veggies and/or fruits in zip-lock bags in the refrigerator to get ready for your platter.
  • Slow-cooker (crock-pot) are excellent for keeping foods warm. Borrow extras from your friends if necessary. Use for cheese dip, meatballs, or sausage links. A quick and easy sauce for meatballs or sausages is a mixture of store-bought or Chipotle Sauce and a small can of tomato sauce.
  • Choose foods that require little, if any, silverware. Prepare with enough toothpicks and napkins for those finger foods.
  • Get enough coffee and sodas before you end the party. Don't let your friends drive home drunk.
  • Finger food ideas
  • Chicken Wings: One of the most popular football party foods is chicken wings. Whether you prepare Buffalo-style, sweet and sour, honey-glazed, or any style of wings, for sure they will be a hit. To save time, choose baked chicken wings recipe, cook in advance, and reheat just before the party starts.
  • Stuffed Red New Potato Skin: Steam a bag of scrubbed baby red new potatoes with the skins on. Toss with kosher salt while hot, allow to cool. Cut in half and scoop out centers (it can be used for potato salad), leaving about 1/4 inch of potato inside the skin. Fill up the skin with sour cream, or herbed cream cheese, store-bought or homemade salsa, taco-seasoned chicken or ground beef, chicken salad, or any filling that you feel good with. Keep in the refrigerator and take out just before the party starts.
  • Crackers and chips: Pick up a bottle of raspberry chipotle sauce or make your own. Pour over a block of cream cheese and serve with crackers. Salsas over cream cheese with tortilla chips is another popular quick dip.
  • Sandwiches: No need to spend money on one of those giant submarine sandwiches from the deli. Order a large loaf from the bakery or bake your own bread in advance. Several large bread rounds will work as well. Purchase your favorite deli meats and cheeses. Pack them up in the morning, wrap in foil and keep in the refrigerator for the coming party. Just before the party starts, you can warm them up in the oven or serve them chilled.
  • Wraps, pita sandwiches, and roll-ups are very easy to get ready ahead. For roll-ups, spread tortillas with cream cheese, mustard, mayonnaise, or your favorite condiment, layer with thin slices of meat or poultry, roll up and slice into bite-size pieces. Pre-make pitas and wraps or consider buffet-style, letting guests doing by themselves.
  • Hollow out hard rolls, sourdough rolls, or any rolls with a hard crust to use as edible bowls for chili.
  • Make hot dogs the main event at your Super Bowl party by cooking them in the beer and setting up a condiment bar.
  • Large, hollowed-out sourdough bread rounds make excellent edible bowls. Borrow the same concept by adding shredded red or green heads of cabbage, sliced multi-colored sweet bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, grapefruits segments, and oranges segments or other vegetables and fruits.
  • Fill celery ribs, hollowed cherry tomatoes, snow pea pods or cooked, drained, and cooled large pasta shells with tuna salad, chicken salad, ham salad, or cheesy mixtures.
  • For dessert, pre-bake some cookies; dessert bars; and cupcakes.

We actually had the exactly same experience as yours. We took the dip and chips to our friends' home as a snack before dinner, but we all kept digging in the dips with chips, nobody cared about leaving room for dinner :) Absolutely delicious!

I tried this mouth watering seven layer dip and homemade tortilla chips. Although kept telling them that I had to leave room for dinner, I actually filled myself with it. Ultimate delicious!
