| 2 | pounds | ground beef, lean | |
| 1 | quart | water | |
| 4 | each | onions | chopped |
| 1 | teaspoon | garlic powder | |
| 4 | teaspoons | chili powder | |
| 2 | teaspoons | red pepper flakes | crushed |
| 4 | teaspoons | cumin | |
| 1 | tablespoon | salt | |
| 5 | each | bay leaves | |
| 1 | teaspoon | allspice | ground |
| 1 1/2 | tablespoon | vinegar | |
| 2 | tablespoons | worcestershire sauce | |
| 6 | ounces | tomato paste | |
| 1 | ounce | chocolate unsweetened | one block |
Add ground beef to water in a large pot and stir until beef separates to a fine texture. Add all other ingredients. Stir to blend. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer uncovered for about 3 hours. May cover for the last hour if desired consistency has been reached.
We loved this. Very similar to the Skyline Chili in Cincinnati. I halved the crushed red pepper, because I don't like that much of it.
