| 5 | large | russet potatoes | peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces, 3 1/4 pounds |
| 4 | large | garlic cloves | peeled |
| 2 | tablespoons | olive oil, extra-virgin | |
| 1 | x | salt | to taste |
| 1 | x | black pepper | freshly ground to taste |
Place potatoes and garlic in a large pot, cover with lightly salted water and bring to a boil.
Cover and cook over medium heat until the potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes.
Drain, reserving cooking liquid.
Return the potatoes and garlic to the pot.
Add oil.
Mash the potatoes with a potato masher, adding 1/2 to 1 cup of the reserved liquid to make a creamy consistency.
Season with salt and pepper.
Transfer the mashed potatoes to a warmed serving bowl.
This is a wonderful mashed garlicky potatoes recipe, the mashed potatoes are very smooth, with the mashed garlic, just perfect taste, and I also made the mushroom gravy, and it goes very well with these mashed potatoes.
