Chocolity Poppers are chocolate marshmallow popcorn bars loaded with salted peanuts, baked until chewy. A sticky, crunchy, no-fuss treat that kids and adults demolish equally fast.

30 minThink of these as a love child between a Rice Krispie treat and a chocolate popcorn ball, pressed into a pan and baked until everything sets into chewy, crunchy bars. Melted butter, marshmallows, and semi-sweet chocolate form a gooey binder that coats popped popcorn and salted peanuts in a rich, sticky layer.
The flour might seem unusual in a popcorn bar, but it gives the bars structure so they hold their shape when cut instead of crumbling into a pile. A quick bake firms everything up without drying it out.
Dust them with powdered sugar while they’re still slightly warm, and the sugar sticks like a light, sweet snowfall across the top.
Pro Tips
- Stir constantly while melting the butter, marshmallows, and chocolate together. The chocolate scorches easily on the bottom of the pan at low heat.
- Use plain popped popcorn, not buttered microwave popcorn. Extra butter and salt will throw off the flavor balance and make the bars greasy.
- Grease the pan well. These bars are sticky, and they’ll rip apart on an ungreased surface.
- Press the mixture firmly and evenly into the pan. Loosely packed bars crumble when cut. Use a greased spatula or wax paper over your hand.
Variations
- Peanut butter chocolate: Stir in two tablespoons of peanut butter with the marshmallow mixture for a richer, nuttier flavor.
- Trail mix version: Add dried cranberries and sunflower seeds alongside the peanuts for a more varied crunch.
- Dark chocolate upgrade: Use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet for a deeper, more intense cocoa flavor.
