| 2 | cups | flour, all-purpose | |
| 1/3 | cup | sugar | granulated |
| 2 | teaspoons | baking powder | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | salt | |
| 1/2 | cup | butter | unsalted, chilled |
| 2 | large | eggs | |
| 1/4 | cup | orange juice | |
| 1 | teaspoon | vanilla extract | |
| 1/2 | teaspoon | orange zest | grated |
| 3/4 | cup | chocolate chips | miniature |
| 1 | each | egg white | mixed with |
| 1/2 | cup | water | for glaze, optional |
Preheat oven to 400 degrees; butter a 9-inch circle in the center of a baking sheet.
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Cut the butter into 1/2-inch ted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the baking sheet to a wire rack and cool for 10 minutes.
With a spatula, transfer the scones to a wire rack to cool.
Recut into wedges if necessary.
