Whole wheat cookies shaped like cat poop, rolled in Grape-Nuts, and served in a litter box. Two dough options: chocolate or gingerbread. The ultimate gross-out Halloween party hit!

The most disgustingly hilarious Halloween cookies you will ever bake. And they actually taste incredible.

You get two dough options here: a rich chocolate version made with cocoa and honey, and a warm gingerbread version with molasses and spices. Both use whole wheat flour for that extra... realistic texture.

Roll the chilled dough into random-length logs, coat them in Grape-Nuts cereal for that unmistakable “kitty litter” look, and bake.

The presentation is everything: pile them into a clean disposable litter box on a bed of Grape-Nuts, drizzle some melted chocolate around for effect, and serve with a litter scoop. Watch your guests lose their minds.

Pro Tips

  • Chill the dough thoroughly before shaping. Frozen for one hour works best; it’s much easier to roll into convincing shapes.
  • Make both the chocolate and gingerbread versions for color variety. The mix of dark and light logs looks more, well, authentic.
  • Scatter some crushed puff pastry pieces on top to mimic those little white foam bits. Gross? Yes. Genius? Also yes.
  • Toss a few plastic flies on the serving table if you really want to commit to the bit.

Directions

*NOTE: puff pastry things are to look like the cat ate styrofoam packing pellets-i haven’t tried this TO MAKE: microwave the honey until it bubbles(about 1 minute). Add the butter,(i’ve been told using lard makes for a more realistic texture and softer cookie) and the molasses, if any. Add the egg, mix well, then mix in all the other stuff. Add mix-ins of your choice to some or all of the batter. Chill 1 hour in the freezer or several hours in the fridge. Roll dough logs of random length and the diameter of cat poops. Roll logs in grape- nuts and bake at 350℉ (180℃) until done(maybe 10 to 15 minutes but with my flaky oven you never know). Serve in a disposable cat litter box on a bed of grapenuts, with a cat litter scoop. You get lovely effects by decorating the box and scoop with melted chocolate or pudding. Brown sugar might work as a substitute for the new clumping litters, but i havent tried it. This recipe worked especially well at the halloween party where the table was already decorated with plastic flies.
