Hot applesauce does something magical when it hits the batter, creating an ultra-moist crumb that stays tender for days.

Dates add sticky-sweet pockets throughout while walnuts provide textural contrast.

Four different spices create layers of warmth that make this taste like autumn in every bite.

Pro Tips

  • Heat the applesauce until steaming for best texture results
  • Chop dates into small pieces so they distribute evenly
  • Don’t overbake; a few moist crumbs on the tester are perfect
  • This cake tastes even better the next day after flavors meld
