¾cup butterVideo or margarine, 150 grams
3large eggsVideo
1⅔cup sugarVideo 185 grams
1teaspoon vanilla extractVideo
2cups flour, all-purpose 240 grams
cup cocoa powderVideo 80 grams
teaspoon baking sodaVideo
¼teaspoon baking powderVideo *
1teaspoon salt
1⅓cups water 312 grams
For the chocolate frosting:
2cups chocolate chips semi-sweet, (12 oz), 340 grams*
2cups sugarVideo powdered, 200 grams
cup milkVideo evaporated, 167.5 grams

Directions

FOR CAKE: Heat oven to 350℉ (180℃). Grease and flour two 9 inch round baking pans or one 13x9x2 inch baking pan.

In large mixer bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat on high speed 3 minutes.

Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt in another large bowl.

Add alternately with water to butter mixture. Blend just until combined. Pour into prepared pans.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes or untill wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans.

Cool completely; frost.

Serves 8 to 10.

FROSTING:

In small microwave-safe bowl, place chocolate chips.

Microwave on high 1½ minutes; stir.

Microwave on high additional 30 seconds or til melted and smooth when stirred. (Chips may also be melted in pan over warm water).

Gradually add powdered sugar and evaporated milk, beating til smooth.

About 1½ cups frosting.

Delicious, followed the recipe exactly, love the chocolate frosting, smooth and tasty, giving the chocolate cake extra smooth and rich taste. Made it for brother's family, everyone enjoyed it.

i've tried this cake several times. it never rises much and comes out looking like brownies. does anyone else have "chocolate water" after adding all the water? it's very, very thin. i think if you reduce the water the leavening action of the powder and soda will have a chance to work. and the icing had to have an extra cup of powdered sugar to be thick enough.
