Yogurt fruit shakes blended with plain yogurt, orange juice, banana, and your choice of fresh or frozen fruit. A creamy, naturally sweetened smoothie base you can customize endlessly.

20 minThis is less a recipe and more a formula you’ll memorize after making it once. One cup plain yogurt, ⅔ cup orange juice, one banana, one cup of whatever fruit you have, and ice. Blend until smooth. That’s a shake that’s creamy, naturally sweet, and thick enough to need a spoon if you want it.
The banana is the ingredient that makes the texture work. It adds body and natural sweetness that holds the whole shake together without any added sugar. The orange juice keeps everything pourable and adds a citrus backbone that brightens whatever fruit you choose.
The recipe author lists favorite combos: peach, blueberry, strawberry, mango-peach, nectarine-raspberry, and mixed berries. Frozen fruit works just as well as fresh and makes the shake thicker and colder without watering it down the way ice cubes can.
Kitchen Tips
- Use a ripe banana with brown spots for maximum sweetness and a smoother blend
- Frozen fruit eliminates the need for ice cubes and gives a thicker, more milkshake-like consistency
- Blend the yogurt and orange juice first, then add the fruit and banana for a smoother result
- Pour immediately. Yogurt shakes separate and thin out if they sit too long
Variations
- Tropical shake: Use mango, pineapple, and coconut yogurt instead of plain for a piña colada vibe
- Green smoothie: Add a handful of fresh spinach with the fruit. The banana and OJ mask the green flavor completely
- Protein boost: Add a scoop of protein powder or 2 tablespoons of nut butter for a more filling post-workout shake
