10 minAll the sparkle and citrus brightness of white sangria, none of the wine. White grape juice stands in for the white wine, mixed with pink grapefruit juice and a tablespoon of lime juice, then topped with chilled soda water and sliced grapefruit right before serving.
White grape juice is the right base here because it mimics wine’s light, slightly sweet character without any harsh flavors. The pink grapefruit juice adds a beautiful blush color and a pleasant bitterness that keeps the punch from tasting like straight-up fruit juice. That tablespoon of lime pulls everything into focus with a sharp citrus edge.
Mix the juices ahead of time and refrigerate the pitcher. Add the soda water at the very last minute so the fizz stays alive through serving.
This is a perfect punch for baby showers, brunches, or any gathering where you want something more festive than water but need to skip the alcohol.
Kitchen Tips
- Chill all ingredients before combining. A cold pitcher keeps the soda water fizzy longer
- Add the soda water slowly down the side of the pitcher, not from above. Pouring from height knocks the carbonation out
- Float the grapefruit slices on top as garnish. They look beautiful and release extra citrus oil into the punch
- Make a double batch for parties. This goes fast
Variations
- Add sliced strawberries, green grapes, and apple slices floating in the pitcher for a more traditional sangria presentation
- Swap soda water for ginger ale for a sweeter, spicier punch
- Use white cranberry juice instead of white grape juice for a tarter, less sweet base
