Ingredients

1/2cup butterVideo softened
1 1/2cups sugarVideo
1tablespoon karo syrup dark, or molasses*
2teaspoon baking sodaVideo
1large eggVideo beaten
3teaspoons cinnamonVideo
2teaspoon ginger ground
1teaspoon cloves ground
3 1/4cup flour, all-purpose sifted
1/2cup orange juice frozen or fresh

Directions

Cream butter and sugar together. ix all ingredients together thoroughly.

Roll out and cut in desired shapes with cookie cutters.

Bake on a buttered baking sheet @ 350 degrees F for about 10 minutes.

Hints: Put a piece of wax paper over bread board and use a cloth on rolling pin. Use flour on paper and then you can roll them out thinner and they will not stick. After mixing dough, place in refrigerator until chilled, at least one hour or even overnight.

I'm sure these cookies must taste fine, but the actual swedish pepparkaka recipe calles for molasses and that the sugars and spices be cooked in a saucepan prior to adding, also that the dough needs to rest overnight to aid in bringing out all the wonderful spice flavors. The hint about rolling out the cookie dough to get them as thin as possible is great!!...God Yul
