30 minHalf beef, half turkey, and a secret weapon: cracked wheat.
These burgers mix extra-lean ground beef with freshly ground turkey breast and uncooked bulgur, which soaks up the juices and keeps the patties moist despite being seriously lean. A hit of Worcestershire sauce rounds out the savory flavor.
Grill them over hot coals for that smoky char, or broil them indoors when the weather won’t cooperate. Either way, pile them on whole wheat buns with lettuce, tomato, and onion rings for a lighter burger that still satisfies.
Pro Tips
- Don’t skip the bulgur. It acts like a sponge, keeping lean patties from drying out on the grill.
- Mix the meat gently and handle as little as possible. Overworking makes tough, dense burgers.
- Let patties rest for a minute after grilling so the juices redistribute before you bite in.
