| 1/2 | cup | sunflower kernels | |
| 16 | ounces | chickpeas (garbanzo beans) | canned, drained, mashed |
| 3 | cups | rice, brown | cooked |
| 1 | medium | onion | chopped |
| 1 | medium | carrots | shredded |
| 1/2 | cup | bread crumbs | italian-style |
| 1/3 | cup | parsley leaves | fresh |
| 2 | large | eggs | lightly beaten |
| 1/4 | cup | soy sauce | |
| 1 | teaspoon | thyme | dried |
| 1 | x | vegetable oil | for frying |
| 8 | slices | bread, french baguette |
Toast sunflower kernals on baking sheet at 350 degrees F. for 5 to 7 minutes until golden.
Combine sunflower kernals, beans, rice, onion, carrot, breadcrumbs, parsley, eggs, soy sauce and thyme.
Form into 8 rectangular patties.
Pan-fry burgers in oil in large skillet over medium-high heat until throughly heated, about 4 minutes per side.
Serve on French bread with condiments.
