20 minPizza monster is the kind of recipe that gets kids actually excited about dinner. Start with a pre-made Italian bread shell, spread on pizza sauce, and let the little ones go wild arranging pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers, and black olives into their creepiest monster face.
The bread shell means no dough prep and no rise time. It bakes up in under 10 minutes, so this works great for a Halloween party or a busy weeknight when you need food on the table fast. The shell gets crisp on the bottom while the mozzarella goes bubbly and golden on top.
Let kids pick their own toppings and design their own monster. Olive slices make great eyes, pepper strips work as fangs or scars, and pepperoni rounds can be stacked for a big cyclops eye. The creative part is half the fun.
Chef Tips
- Place the pizza directly on the oven rack (with a sheet below to catch drips) for an extra-crisp bottom crust.
- Shred your own mozzarella from a block. Pre-shredded bags contain anti-caking starch that prevents that stretchy, gooey melt.
- Don’t overload the toppings or the center will get soggy before the edges crisp up.
Variations
- Mummy pizza: Lay mozzarella string cheese strips across the top in overlapping bands, leaving gaps for olive “eyes” peeking through.
- Veggie monster: Skip the pepperoni and load up with roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, and sun-dried tomatoes.
