This flavored coffee blend is a mix, not a brewed drink. Ground coffee gets pulsed in a food processor with fresh orange zest and vanilla extract, then stored with cinnamon sticks that slowly infuse their warmth into the grounds over time. Brew it like regular coffee whenever you want a cup that smells like a spice market.

The orange zest is the star. Processing it directly into the ground coffee releases the citrus oils and distributes them evenly through every scoop. When hot water hits those grounds, the orange fragrance blooms before you even take a sip.

Vanilla extract added during processing coats the coffee grounds with a subtle sweetness that softens the bitter edge of the brew without adding sugar.

The cinnamon sticks go in whole and sit with the grounds in the fridge. They release their flavor slowly, so the mix gets more aromatic the longer it stores.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use freshly ground coffee for the best flavor. Pre-ground coffee has already lost some of its volatile oils.
  • Grate the orange zest on a microplane for fine pieces that blend seamlessly. Large shreds can clog a drip filter.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The cold preserves the volatile oils in both the coffee and the zest.
  • Brew using your normal coffee-to-water ratio. The added flavors don’t change how much coffee you need per cup.

Variations

  • Chocolate orange coffee: Add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder to the blend for a mocha-orange twist.
  • Cardamom swap: Replace the cinnamon sticks with crushed cardamom pods for a Middle Eastern-inspired brew.
  • Gift jar: Pack the blend into a small mason jar with a ribbon for a homemade holiday gift.

Directions

Place coffe and orange peel in blender or food processor fitted with steel blade.

With processor running, add vanilla.

Stop and scrape sides of container with a spatula.

Process 10 seconds longer.

Place mix in a small bowl and stir in cinnamon sticks.

Store in refrigerator.
