Ingredients

1 x vegetable oil or shortening, for deep frying
1 cup flour, self-rising self-rising
2/3 cup cornmeal mix, self-rising
3/4 cup milk
1 each egg lightly beaten
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 x skewers optional
1 pound frankfurters at room temperature
1 x prepared mustard and ketchup , optional

Directions

In large saucepan or electric fryer, heat 2 to 3 inches of oil over medium-high heat to 375.

Stir together flour and corn meal in mixing bowl.

Add milk, egg, and 2 tablespoons oil; stir until smooth.

Set batter aside for 10 minutes.

Insert skewers into weiners.

Dip weiners into batter. Carefully drop corn dogs into hot oil.

Fry until golden brown and floating on top.

Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with mustard and ketchup, if desired.
