Jack-o'-lantern cookies made by dipping Oreos in orange-tinted cream cheese frosting coating. A fun no-bake Halloween treat kids love to decorate with chocolate icing faces.

These no-bake Halloween cookies turn regular Oreos into adorable little jack-o'-lanterns with almost zero effort. Cream cheese frosting melted with vanilla candy coating creates a smooth, pumpkin-orange shell that sets firm and glossy.

The coating step is quick. Melt the frosting and candy pieces together, stir in orange food coloring, then dip each Oreo with tongs until fully covered. Set them on waxed paper and they firm up in about 10 minutes. Kids can take over from there, piping on chocolate icing faces and pressing green gumdrop halves on top for stems.

This is really more of an assembly project than a recipe, which makes it ideal for younger kids or classroom parties where you need something festive and fast.

Pro Tips

  • Work quickly once the coating is melted. It thickens as it cools, so if it gets too stiff, gently rewarm it over low heat.
  • Use regular Oreos, not Double Stuf. The thinner cookie dips more easily and the coating-to-cookie ratio stays balanced.
  • Let the coating set completely before decorating. If the surface is still tacky, the icing faces will smear.
  • Place finished cookies in the fridge for 5 minutes if they aren’t setting up fast enough at room temperature.

Variations

  • Spooky ghosts: Skip the orange food coloring and leave the coating white. Pipe on ghost faces instead of jack-o'-lantern features.
  • Mummy cookies: Drizzle thin white icing lines across the dipped cookies and add two candy eyes for a wrapped mummy look.
