This frozen cocktail tastes like a chocolate-covered banana in liquid form. Godiva chocolate cream liqueur, dark rum, half a banana, and vanilla ice cream get blended smooth into a thick, frosty drink that’s equal parts dessert and happy hour.

The chocolate liqueur provides all the sweetness and cocoa flavor you need. The banana adds natural body and fruity depth, while the rum cuts through the richness with a warm, caramel-like heat that keeps it from tasting like straight-up candy.

Use a ripe banana for the best flavor. Underripe bananas are starchy and won’t blend as smoothly or taste as sweet.

Kitchen Tips

  • Soften the ice cream slightly before blending. Rock-hard ice cream jams the blender and creates chunks instead of a smooth pour.
  • Blend until completely smooth. Any banana lumps will clog the glass and throw off the texture.
  • Serve immediately in a chilled glass. This melts fast, and a warm chocolate milkshake isn’t the same experience.

Variations

  • Use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla for a double-chocolate version.
  • Swap dark rum for coconut rum for a tropical twist.
  • Freeze the banana slices beforehand for a thicker, slushier drink without needing extra ice.
