5 minGhoul-Aid is a dead-simple Halloween party punch that gets its murky, spooky color from mixing grape and orange Kool-Aid together. The combination turns an eerie brownish-purple that looks perfectly creepy in a punch bowl.
The ginger ale goes in last and gives it fizz. Serve it immediately after adding the ginger ale or the bubbles go flat and you lose half the fun. Cold ginger ale is key here. Warm ginger ale loses its carbonation the second it hits the pitcher.
This is a kid-friendly crowd-pleaser that takes about 5 minutes to throw together. Scale it up easily for bigger parties by doubling or tripling the recipe.
Kitchen Tips
- Use unsweetened Kool-Aid packets and add the sugar yourself. Pre-sweetened versions will make it way too sweet once the ginger ale is added.
- Use a non-metal pitcher. The Kool-Aid can stain and react with certain metals.
- Stir the Kool-Aid and sugar into the water thoroughly before adding ginger ale. Undissolved sugar sinks to the bottom.
- For an extra spooky touch, freeze Kool-Aid in a rubber glove to make a floating hand ice mold for the punch bowl.
Variations
- Use lemon-lime soda instead of ginger ale for a sweeter fizz.
- Add scoops of orange sherbet floating on top for a creamy, frothy look.
- Freeze gummy worms into ice cubes and drop them into each glass.
